Beam Gallery
There is a compelling need in South Africa for alternative gallery spaces that bridge the gap between commercial galleries and traditional art institutions; spaces which allow artists and curators to innovate with shows that do not fit into the existing art market or framework. The Africa Centre has established a gallery on the Spier Estate to enable new ideas to be incubated and nurtured, where the barriers between art, craft and design can be broken and where debates can be stirred to move the dialogue on African art in new directions.
The gallery does not take a commission on work sold from its space. Artists and curators who chose to sell work from the gallery manage this themselves, but are able to benefit 100% from this income.
