Based on funding constraints, the Africa Centre has regretfully had to cancel Cape Town’s Infecting the City Festival for 2016.
Every year since its inception in 2008, audience attendance, artist participation and media attention has increased, as the Festival emerged into one of Cape Town’s signature artistic events. Its audience numbers peaked in 2015 with over 38,000 people, but unfortunately this popularity has not translated into fundraising success. Raising money for the Festival is always a 12-month occupation and never without its challenges. This past year we have done an exhaustive search for funders, but unfortunately have not been able to secure enough to hold the Festival in its traditional format.
With support from the City of Cape Town however, we plan to launch the Infecting the City series. This will include a range of large and small monthly public art interventions that take place in the City’s shared spaces. The series will start in March and the full schedule will be released in the next three weeks. Check our facebook page and website for more details. (www.infectingthecity.com)
