Infecting The City spread its wings earlier this year when it staged a new public art intervention in January 2014 in the form of ITC Mbombela.
Infecting the City curator Jay Pather commented on the receptiveness of the Mbombela public to the festival, where audience members deliberately sought out performances.
“People were so excited, you felt like you were feeding them,” Pather said of the culturally nourishing effect of the two-day festival.
There was no lack of discernment among Mbombela audiences, however: if a particular performance did not reflect a familiar context that made sense to spectators, they merely voted with their feet and moved on.
